The Infinite, Beginningless, and Selfless Universe: Returning to Our True Nature

The Infinite, Beginningless, and Selfless Universe: Returning to Our True Nature.

The universe is infinite, without a beginning, and selfless. These are not abstract philosophical ideas but observable truths woven into the very fabric of existence. They are not hidden in distant galaxies or abstract theories—they are present here and now, in every breath, every heartbeat, every particle of dust, and every thought that arises.

Yet, despite being expressions of the universe itself, humans see themselves as exceptions to these truths. We see ourselves as separate, independent entities with fixed identities, origins, and destinies. This fundamental misunderstanding leads to immense suffering, both individually and collectively. By recognizing these truths, we can return to our true nature—where peace and happiness are the natural state.

The Universe Is Infinite.

How infinite is the universe? To grasp this, consider space itself. Space cannot be contained because there’s nothing outside of it to contain it. It cannot have edges because an “edge” implies a boundary separating something from something else—but there is no “something else.” Space is the absence of limitation. No matter how far we travel outward or inward, there is always more. The infinite is not a measurement; it’s the very nature of existence.

This infinite nature isn’t just out there in distant galaxies—it’s present within us. Every cell, atom, and particle in our bodies is part of this boundless expanse. A single drop of water contains an infinite universe of molecules, atoms, and subatomic interactions. Every grain of sand, every breath of air, every heartbeat is part of this infinite truth. This boundless nature is not separate from us. We are not entities floating within an infinite universe, the space within us is not apart from the whole infinite space—we are the infinite universe, momentarily appearing in human form. The illusion of separation arises only in the mind, not in reality.

The Universe Is Without a Beginning.

Most believe that everything must have a starting point, but this is a misunderstanding born from human concepts of time. Even the smallest components of the universe—protons, neutrons, electrons, and quarks—were never a single entity that “began.” Every part of them is composed of smaller parts, and those parts are composed of even smaller parts, stretching into infinite divisibility.

If everything is composed of parts that rely on other parts, there is no first part. No origin. No singular moment of creation. The universe has always existed because everything depends on everything else, not on an independent starting point. This interdependent existence proves that there was never a “beginning”—just an ongoing, endless process of expression and transformation.

This infinite regress is not a problem to be solved; it’s the very nature of existence. There is no first cause because everything arises in dependence on everything else. The universe did not “begin” because existence is not an event within time—time itself is an expression within the timeless, beginningless reality.

Even the concept of time arises from the mind’s attempt to measure change. But change itself is not dependent on time; rather, time is an idea we use to describe the ongoing flow of transformations. The universe is not moving through time—it is the timeless process of infinite change, without beginning or end.

The Universe Is Selfless.

Selflessness doesn’t mean that nothing exists. It means that nothing exists independently, with an individual inner nature that is separate from everything else. No object, no being, no particle arises from itself or by itself. Everything exists in relationship, as part of a web of interdependent causes and conditions.

Nothing in the universe possesses autonomous nature capable of bringing itself into existence. Everything arises because of everything else. Every breath we take, every thought we think, is the result of countless interwoven causes and conditions stretching across time and space.

Selflessness doesn’t mean nothing exists; it means nothing exists by itself. Instead, everything is full of everything else’s essence. What we call “individual identity” is just a temporary pattern formed by the universe expressing itself in infinite forms.

Now consider yourself. What part of you exists independently? Your body is composed of the food you’ve eaten, the water you’ve drunk, the air you’ve breathed—all borrowed from the world. Your thoughts are shaped by experiences, language, culture, relationships. Even your sense of “I” arises from patterns in the brain, which depend on countless biological, chemical, and environmental factors.

There is no separate, autonomous “self” inside you pulling the strings. What you call “you” is the universe expressing itself in a particular form, for a particular moment. Selflessness means that everything is full of everything else—there is no core, isolated essence that stands apart.

The Human Delusion: Believing We Are the Exception.

Despite being inseparable part of the universe, humans often believe they stand apart from it—as if we are separate entities with independent beginnings formed outside of the universal infinity, somehow fixed selves with isolated existences. This belief is not only irrational but profoundly harmful.

The consequences are everywhere: fear, competition, the illusion of scarcity, injustice, hatred, racism, war, and even personal mental suffering. When we see ourselves as separate, life becomes a struggle to protect, defend, and assert an identity that doesn’t truly exist. This delusion breeds anxiety, depression, loneliness, and conflict. We fear loss because we think we can lose something that belongs to “us.” We compete for resources because we believe in scarcity, not seeing that abundance arises from interconnectedness. We judge and divide, creating boundaries of “us” and “them,” leading to prejudice, racism, hatred, and even war.

This delusion doesn’t just cause global conflict—it manifests in our personal lives as anxiety, depression, loneliness, and existential dread. We search desperately for meaning, never realizing that meaning is not something we acquire—it is what we are.

Perceived Differences: Expressions of the Whole.

All perceived differences—between people, cultures, species, or even galaxies—don’t belong to individuals. They are the universe expressing its infinite potential in countless ways. A wave is not separate from the ocean; it is the ocean in motion. Likewise, every person is the universe in motion, temporarily shaped into a unique form that will eventually dissolve back into the whole.

Understanding this doesn’t erase our individuality—it reveals its true nature. We are not isolated fragments; we are dynamic expressions of the infinite, beginningless, and selfless universe. This doesn’t erase individuality; it emphasizes our true nature. Our unique forms are like ripples on the surface of water—temporary patterns within an eternal flow. We can celebrate diversity without clinging to the illusion of separateness.

Returning to Our True Nature.

What happens when we see through the illusion of separateness? We return to our true nature, which was never lost—only overlooked. In this recognition, fear dissolves because there is nothing to protect. The need to compete fades because there is nothing to gain or lose. The illusion of scarcity vanishes because we realize we are not isolated fragments but expressions of infinite abundance.

Peace and happiness are no longer distant goals to be chased. They are the natural state that arises when we stop resisting what is. Joy is not the result of external circumstances—it is the recognition of our inseparable connection to everything.

Returning to our true nature is not a journey to a distant destination. It is the simple, radical realization of what has always been true: we are the universe, infinite, beginningless, and selfless. In this recognition, peace is not just possible—it is inevitable.
