Ending War by Ending Illusion: A Personal Appeal to the UN.
End the Illusion of Separation — and With It, End War
To the United Nations and its Member States,
We speak to you today not as critics or philosophers, but as fellow human beings — with deep respect for your mission and the extraordinary responsibility you carry.
You were created to prevent war, to safeguard peace, and to uplift the dignity of every human being on Earth. This letter is an invitation to fulfill that promise in a way that is deeper, simpler, and more lasting than perhaps ever considered.
We are not here to offer another theory.
We are here to point to a fact — an overlooked, yet observable truth: the illusion of separateness is the real source of all conflict. And until we address it, peace will remain out of reach.
The idea that each person or nation possesses an independent, unique self — something stand-alone, self-created, and self-contained — seems obvious. But this is not truth. It is a belief, reinforced by habit and rarely questioned.
Yet when we look — with honesty, without assumption — we find that the self we so deeply believe in is not found. Instead, a vast, selfless Self is discovered, because:
• No person or thing exists independently, in and of itself.
• The body is not self-made. It is the continuation of processes dating back to the first particles and conditions of the cosmos — a chain with no findable beginning.
• The mind is not a solid thing, but a flowing stream of moments, each arising from the previous, without origin.
• What we call a “self” is not one entity, but a constellation of physical and nonphysical causes — none of which belong to it.
• The labels “me,” “you,” “this side,” “that country” are mental constructs. They appear in thought — and nowhere else.
• If an independent self truly existed, it could be found. But when we search — in the body, the mind, or even the story we tell about who we are — all we find are processes, not permanence.
• Even the smallest particle has no inherent nature. Everything is born of something else. Everything is full of everything else — not its own essence. Nothing can self-generate because everything is selfless without its own nature that could bring us into existence.
This is not speculation. This is not dogma. This is what is.
And yet — humanity continues to suffer, fear, hate, and make war, based on this one false assumption: that we are separate.
But we are not.
We are not separate beings negotiating coexistence. We are existence itself, expressing through different forms. All perceivable differences — the color of our skin, our eyes, our languages, our cultures — do not belong to any individual or nation. They belong to the whole of existence, appearing uniquely through each of us. There is no true “other. The entire structure of conflict is built on a misunderstanding.
To see this is to end war — not just politically, but existentially.
This is why we appeal to you:
1. Recognize the True Source of Division
Not ideology, not borders, not religion — but the false belief in inherent separation.
2. Bring Nonduality into the Conversation
Not as spiritual belief, but as directly observable fact: we are not separate. No person or nation is self-existing. All are born of everything else.
3. Lead Through Understanding, Not Just Agreement
Through education, dialogue, and example, invite people and leaders everywhere to question what they believe to be real — and see the truth for themselves.
4. Apply This Insight to Peacebuilding
Let nonduality guide policy, negotiation, and healing — not in abstract terms, but through the lived understanding that no side can win against itself.
5. Invite a Global Reckoning with Reality
Convene scientists, philosophers, peacemakers, and the spiritually awake — to share, teach, and demonstrate what humanity has been overlooking: there is no “other.”
This message is not idealistic. It is not even new. It is simply the truth, made visible by the clarity of direct observation and the light of timeless wisdom.
It is also urgent. Because the longer we believe the illusion, the more suffering we create — not just in warzones, but in every heart that feels alone, threatened, or afraid.
You have the power to lead the world out of illusion — not by force, but by clarity. Not by conquering division, but by revealing that it never truly existed.
Peace is not a goal in the distance. It is our natural state — once we stop mistaking thought for reality.
We ask you to take this step. For all people. For all nations.
For the truth that binds us before and beyond every difference.
With deepest respect and shared hope,
Vast Self team
